Have your own free range eggs
There are nothing like real free range eggs. Each day you will get fresh eggs from hens which are fed only what you give them. Ask anyone, free range eggs are fantastic.
So the following Q&A wil answer a lot of the questions about keeping hens.
How many hens do I need?
Most of the hybrid breeds lay around 280 eggs per bird per year. So if you want half dozen eggs per day I would suggest 8 hens. If you only want 2 dozen eggs per week , 4 hens should do the trick. Friends and neighbours are always delighted to receive any surplus eggs that you might have.
Is there much looking after hens?
Not if you get yourself set up with a good house and run. Cats , dogs , foxes will all kill hens given an opportunity but if your hens are secured in a run they generally get on with life and dont need much looking after. They must be fed everyday and have access to water. There is actually more looking after a pet dog than hens.
What do you fed hens?
We feed our hens rolled wheat because it is much cheaper than compound feeds and because they are free to roam they pick up bugs , worms and other bits. Hens love left over potatoes and vegetables. You can of course buy bags of layers pellets which are a formulated as a balanced diet.
Where do I buy hens?
We can sell you POL pullets which are nearly ready to lay. We can also supply you a hen house and the basic bits you need to get started. We also will give you free advice and assitance to get you going.
